What is this all about?

I am interested in reducing waste and reducing energy consumption in my life while living in a more integrated and social community. I would also like to share my knowledge of the subject and help others live more sustainably. In pursuit of these goals, I have created this group to bring together people with varying levels of interest and skills so that we may learn from each other, help eachother and hopefully achieve some goals.

You do not need to be a vegetarian, drive a hybrid or be an expert gardener to join this group! Trust me, I have a long way to go before I am living in a "green" fashion (as I drive a big truck!), but I am passionate about making steps towards a more sustainable lifestyle. I feel this is very important and this social club provides a great opportunity to advance the movement!

I have not yet put all the pieces of the puzzle together on just how this group will function or what will be involved but I would like to learn something new, help others, meet new people and have fun while trying to save the planet!

Sounds like a great plan, I have to meet Lindsay at the Boot Camp Studio on Rt. 1 in Scarborough at 10 for re-measurements, but that should only take 10-15 minutes. Let's say 8:30a at your place. Can you message me your address?

Does anyone else want to partake in the gardening adventure tomorrow?

I just talked to my coworker and we are good to go for tomorrow! His name is Matt and his wife's name is Mora. Matt has extra seedlings to offer us, so let's see what he has and if we want to plant some other items, the Scarborough farmers market is three minutes from his house. It sounds like Matt and Mora have a little bit of experience and can give us a few pointers. I believe our place is on your way to Scarborough, so how about we meet at my place. 8:30? 9?

Awesome Andrew, once you let us know if he's still in, maybe we should meet up at the Deering Oaks Farmer's Market to stock up then head over to get it going! I don't know much about actual gardening, so far we only have herbs in containers in our windows, but I'm really excited! I know Sawyer would have fun playing in the dirt, I don't know about Dave though...:)

Kara, thanks for the info. Needless to say, I was not able to volunteer! Thanks for the info though.

Morgan, The best option I have come across is one of my coworkers who has a garden at his home in Scarborough (only 10 minutes from my apartment in Portland by USM). He was willing to let a small group of us do some gardening. If we had a group of 6-8 people interested, I think that would be fine. We could probably get started on it this weekend. I don't know if Dave is interested in this too but we could probably bring the boys with us and make it a family fun event. I will have to check back with my coworker to see if he is still up for it.

Hey Andrew, any update on the community garden?

Hey there,

My sister owns a farm in Alfred, ME...Wolfpine Farm. She is always looking for volunteers to help with planting, weeding, and other farm projects. She has owned and operated the organic farm (veggies & chickens) for over 8 years now. They were involved in a summer CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) for all those years, and this year she is only doing a winter CSA, but had over 400 members last year. If anyone is interested in helping out, she is looking for volunteers for Friday (tomorrow). You can also check out the website at wolfpinefarm.com.
