My boss passed on some info about some island clean-up events being run through the Maine Island Trail Association. Here's what the email said, in case anyone is interested:

Join MITA staff and volunteers for one of our full day island clean-up events. Each clean-up starts at 9 a.m. and ends around 3 p.m. and targets islands in a particular region. This is a great chance to get out on the water and volunteer. At the end of the day, seeing the piles of trash and debris we collect will make it a very rewarding experience!

Spring 2012 Clean-up dates:

Friday, May 4 - Fort Foster, Kittery
Saturday, June 2- Casco Bay

Saturday, June 9- Muscongus Bay

Saturday, June 16- Stonington

Saturday, June 23- Downeast

Contact Maria by email or 207-761-8225 for more information or to sign up.

Hey Clean Up Club, we are working with ROOTS again this Saturday (5/5) to help them paint the outside of the school.  We would love to see some of you there.

It's raining pretty hard outside. I'm calling this one Postponed. Same bat-time next week?

Great idea starting this group. We could do a riverside clean-up sometime afterwards -- plenty of garbage collects under overpasses or where people camp and fish. The Saco River is supposed to be famous for accumulating trash in the summertime.
